A Treatise on the Nature of Spiritual Powers: Part II

Initiation

The first thing to do on one's journey here is to initiate themselves into SP.

The way to do this varies among people, and there are many religions that try to set up their own initiation systems. The best thing to do is to research until you find something that seems to work for you, and then go for it. Whether it's a concisely-written ritual, or a basic ideal that sparks a way of initiating for you, you should do what you feel right doing.

The most important aspect of any initiation is to make an oath to yourself not to give up the search for knowledge and understanding. Do not do it as a contract on your soul, because some spirits actually can hijack that, which is very difficult to set right. Do not do it as an oath on something other than your own trust in yourself, or otherwise some aspect of who you are. If you swear on your mother, she can be compromised, which is a dangerous loophole for negative karma.

All warnings aside, a properly-made oath is completely safe and sanctified to the extent of your will to make it so.

My way of making the oath was to gather friendly spirits with a prayer, then to make an oath with them as witnesses (useful for some) that I would work to learn and understand the nature of reality, and that I would never use the powers I found for gain at innocent others' expense.

Not too difficult, but still an important, binding oath to yourself, which can give you confidence in your powers once they develop.

In the next installment, I'll be talking about personal energies, and how to tell what your signature is.
